A Simple Model for the Quark Fragmentation Functions Seen in Deep Inelastic Processes*
نویسنده
چکیده
Using some simple .ass.mptions, we present in this paper a calculation of the quark fragmentation functions seen in deep inelastic processes. The results provide evidence for the conjecture that both jets seen in high p1 reactions at the ISR stem from similar parents. The calculated functions are in excellent agreement with the inclusive distributions seen in vp and tp scattering, and in particular explain the puzzling presence of leading IT-'s from the fragmentation of a leading up quark. The results are also in agreement with the charge ratios extracted from deep inelastic electron scattering. * Work supported in part by the Energy Research and Development Administration (Submitted to Phys. THE ROLE OF QUARK POLARIZATION IN HEAVY QUARK FRAGMENTATION
We calculate the exact fragmentation functions for c and b quark fragmentation taking into account the spin orientation of the initial heavy quark in the form of analytical and rather simple expressions. Our calculations show that spin orientation may have an important effect on the fragmentation spectrum. This effect is more striking in the cases of c ?D, D*; c? ? , ? , and ?B , B *.
متن کاملThe Full Spin Structure of Quarks in the Nucleon
We discuss bounds on the distribution and fragmentation functions that appear at leading order in deep inelastic 1-particle inclusive leptoproduction or in Drell-Yan processes. These bounds simply follow from positivity of the quarkhadron scattering matrix elements and are an important guide in estimating the magnitude of the azimuthal and spin asymmetries in these processes. We focus on an exa...
متن کاملModeling dihadron fragmentation functions
We present a model for dihadron fragmentation functions, describing the fragmentation of a quark into two unpolarized hadrons. We tune the parameters of our model to the output of the PYTHIA event generator for two-hadron semi-inclusive production in deep inelastic scattering at HERMES. Once the parameters of the model are fixed, we make predictions for other unknown fragmentation functions and...
متن کاملViolation of Universality in Spin-Dependent Fragmentation
The time-reversal odd fragmentation of an unpolarized quark into a transversely polarized spin-12 particle is studied in the framework of a simple model which, in particular, describes the gluon exchange incorporated in the gauge link of the fragmentation function. The transverse single spin asymmetries in e+e− annihilation and semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering are calculated in the one-...
متن کاملNNLO Time-like Splitting Functions in QCD
We review the status of the calculation of the time-like splitting functions for the evolution of fragmentation functions to the next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD. By employing relations between space-like and time-like deep-inelastic processes, all quark-quark and the gluon-gluon time-like splitting functions have been obtained to three loops. The corresponding quantities for t...
